White Griffin Run 2015 Report White Griffin Run 2014 Report White Griffin Run 2013 Report White Griffin Run 2012 Report White Griffin Run 2011 Report White Griffin Run 2016 Report This years White Griffin Run took place on Sunday 7th May 2017. This year the aim of the run was to raise Money for the North Wales Caner Unit. Bryan and Marie Wilcox had spoken to a lot of companies in the area who were prepared to donate money to the cause. Every person on the run also made a donation and collection buckets were placed around the cars at Conwy Quay. The destination for this years run was Conwy Quay, the first time we believe a car club has displayed there, thanks must go to Conwys Harbour for allowing us to display here and also to Bryan and Marie Wilcox for organising it. The runners assembled up at the Drovers Arm’s where we had coffee before setting of on the route to Conwy Quay. We had a wide selection of cars ranging from Marie Wilcox’s new Cavalier Mk3 1.4 L to Steve Clarkes Cavalier Mk1 1600 and Martin Jarvis’s Chevette 1300. We left the Drover’s promptly at 10.30am and Marie Wilcox with her passenger Pat Bricknall lead the cavacaide of 10 car’s from the Drovers and into Ruthin with Jane Miller with her passenger Peter Norrish ridding shot gun at the back. From there we headed out through the Clocaenog Forest, the location were Alan Well’s Opel Manta GT/E which was on the run had taken part in one of the lower Classes of the 1991 Lombard RAC Rally almost 26 years ago and was making it’s first trip back to Wales. We joined the A5 at Cerridriogon and head up the A5 towards Betws-y-Coed, dubbed "The Gateway to Snowdonia". The weather was excellent wall to wall blue sky and sun. Just before getting to Betws-y-Coed we turned off onto the A470 to Llanrwst which is a small town and community on the River Conwy. From here we crossed over the very narrow bridge over the River Conwy onto the B5106. We stopped at Trefriw a village lies on the river Crafnant a few miles south of the site of the Roman fort of Canovium, sited at Caerhun to allow the runners delayed at the bridge to catch up. We headed up the B5106 through Dolgarrog following the River Conwy on the way into Conwy. We arrived at Conwy to be greeted by Conwy Castle, we then passed under the Town Wall and made out way to the assembly point for entering the Quay. We entered Lower Gate Street and then assembled up on the Quay at Conwy in the shadow of Conwy Castle, we were able to display the car’s from 1pm till 5pm. Collection buckets were placed out for people looking at the car’s to put money in for the North Wales Cancer Unit. Conwy Castle Impressively preserved 13th-century estuary fortress with scenic battlement views. We then had time to explorer Conwy itself. Beth Watt and Jane Miller also went to the top of one of the towers on the Castle and Beth took some shots of Club Members and there car’s. I also walked up onto the Town Wall and took some pictures. The time few past and 5pm arrived and we were ready to make the return journey to the Drovers Inn. At this point Martyn and Jo’s Chevette which had been having starting issues due to a problem with the starter motor refused to start, various attempts to push start it failed. It got started eventually though so we all made our way up to the main road. It was here that the Chevette stopped and refused to start again. Martin decided at this point it was not worth persisting with and he was going to call The AA. Leaving Martin and Jo with the support car and the Chevette at Conwy we regrouped and made our way back to the Drover’s Arms. We had a slightly different route on the way back avoiding the narrow bridge at Trefriw. Arriving back at The Drovers Arms we had a very nice meal and a well earnt rest after what was an excellent White Griffin Run. Bryan and Marie Wilcox will be working out how much money has been raised for the North Wales Cancer unit and a date will be arranged for a presentation to take place with a few Club Car’s in attendance. Jane Miller, Alan Wells, Martin Jarvis, Jo Costello, Kevin Bricknall and his mum Pat Bricknall, Steve Clarke and his wife, Phil Scaiffe, Richard, Beth and Brandon Watt, Simon Downs, Peter Norrish, Michelle and Gareth with their children Bryan and Marie Wilcox.
