A Big Thank you to Vauxhall A big thank you to Vauxhall for putting on an excellent display at the Footman James Sywell Classic Pistons and Props over the weekend of the 26th and 27th September. Celebrating 40 Years of the Vauxhall Chevette and Cavalier Mk1 and for allowing Club Cars to participate in the display. Vince Poole, an old-fashioned English gentleman of the best sort. It is with the greatest of regret that the Club sends out this bulletin to inform you of the sudden and untimely death of our much-respected Chairman, Vince Poole, on 26th August, at the early age of 72.  It is our sad duty to have to tell you that Vince died of a heart attack suffered in a village near his home in Northwich, Cheshire. His friends on the Committee and in the wider Club are all very distressed at the news. He was not merely the Club’s senior elected officer, but a good personal friend to us.  The Club will be represented at his funeral on 21st September at Vale Royal Crematorium. Until such time as matters can be otherwise arranged, the Vice-Chairman, Jane Miller, will be acting in the role of Chairman at Committee Meetings and in other necessary official matters connected with the Club. The Club on BBC Radio again. Richard what with his Cavalier Mk1 LOU 848P carried out an interview with Roberto Perrone of BBC Three Counties Radio 40 Years to the day that the first Cavalier Mk1’s including this one entered the UK.  Kevin Bricknall was also in attendance and spoke about the Chevette also being 40 years old and the Club in general. Classic Car Weekly and Classic Car Buyer - July 22nd 2015 The Club are in Classic Car Buyer Page 8 and Classic Car Weekly Page's 12 and 14. The Club on BBC Radio and BBC News Online. The Club have carried out interview for BBC Radio Northampton and BBC New Online with regards to the Chevette and Cavalier Mk1 being 40 years old. Ruby Run Update - 3rd July 2015. The Ruby Run should have rolled into Bristol Street Motor's in Carlisle this morning at 11am.  If you are in the area please call past and visit the dealership.  From here the run is heading to Dews Garage in Northgate Halifax tomorrow for 9.00/9.30am and then on towards Glossop and Helsby. Ruby Run Update - 30th June 2015 Good luck to all the runners and riders in the Ruby Run which starts in Durness at 10am today (Tuesday 30th June 2015). Ruby Run Update - 29th June 2015 - MacKays of Dingwall Before the start of the Ruby Run on Tuesday those drivers and cars at the start of the Ruby Run visited MacKays of Dingwall one of the oldest Vauxhall Dealers in the UK. Mackays of Dingwall, also known as Mackays Garage, can date its origins back to the 1920s when it was a Chevrolet dealership, a part of the General Motors Group. Director Muir Mackay said: “It was an absolute pleasure to have the Cavalier and Chevette Club call in at Mackays on their Ruby Run.  Their cars were in amazing condition, running as sweet as the day they were new and bear in mind these cars were getting on for 40 years old.  It was really nice that they recognised Mackays long pedigree with Vauxhall Motors. www.scottishvauxhall.co.uk Can you Help? The 1975 Launch of the Cavalier Mk1 at Earls Court and Silver Aero at the 1980 N.E.C Motor Show. Did you visit the 1975 Earls Court Motor Show or the 1980 N.E.C Birmingham International Motor Show?  If so did you take any photo's of the Vauxhall stands.  At the 1975 Motor Show the Cavalier Mk1 and Chevette both made there appearance in the UK and in 1980 the Vauxhall Cavalier Mk1 Sportshatch "Silver Aero" was exhibited.  The 1975 Press Cavalier Mk1 and Silver Aero both still exist and are in the hands of Club Members but they have little in the way of photo's of the car at these events.  If you have any and are wiling to provide them please email the picture's to the following club emails address and we will pass them onto the relevant club member. enquiries@cavalierandchevetteclub.co.uk  Also we are aware that both the BBC and ATV (ITV) covered both these events and programs were recorded and broadcast.  Do you have a copy of the program that you are willing to provide the owner with?  If so please contact the club on the following email address. enquiries@cavalierandchevetteclub.co.uk  James Hunt. In June 1993 the 1976 Formula One World Champion James Hunt who was an ambassador for Vauxhall cars sadly died. Cholmondley Pageant of Power and Luton Festival of Transport. Club stand at both these events in 2014. The Club will have a major presents at both of these events this coming weekend.  At the Cholmondley Pageant of Power we will have a stand in the car Clubs area from Friday 12th June till Sunday 14th June.  At the Luton Festival of Transport at Stockwood Park, Luton the Club will also have a Stand.  At both of these events we will be celebrating the Vauxhall Cavalier Mk1 and Vauxhall Chevette being 40 Years old this year. Vernon Vauxhall to do Ruby Run Vernon Vauxhall will be taking part in The Ruby Run and once he has arrived at Billing he will be Auctioned of on the Sunday also with a photo album detailing his trip from Durness to Dover. 20 Years ago this weekend. 20 Years ago this weekend John Cleland driving a Vauxhall Cavalier for Vauxhall Sport along with James Thompson started there attack on the 1995 British Touring Car Championship at Donnington Park.  John Cleland would go on and win the Championship that year in the Cavalier in it's final season in the BTCC. Practical Classics and Restoration Show 2015. Big thank you to Phil Scaife, Colin Pizey and Fred Coombs for proving the cars for the Club stand at the Practical Classics and Restoration Show 2015.  If you managed to get to the event I hope you enjoyed it.  A report will appear shortly on the website under the Restoration Show link on the left.  In the mean time here is a photo. We are just putting finalising the cars that will be on the stand over the weekend please check the Restoration Show link on the left for further details. www.necrestroationshow.com  Vauxhall Cavalier Mk1 and Chevette 40 Years old - 1975-2015 This year marks 40 Years since the launch of the Vaxuhall Cavalier Mk1 and Vauxhall Chevette.  The Cars were launched in 1975.  The cars were the work of Wayne Cherry who was head of the Vauxhall Design Team at Luton.  The Club will be marking 40 years of the Vauxhall Cavalier Mk1 and Vauxhall Chevette with events during the year.

Cavalier Mk1 Sportshatch Prototype “Silver Aero” to attened Lancaster Classic Motor Show in 2015.  Silver Aero was exibited at the NEC in 1980 at the British International Motor Show.

LOU meets Jon Bentley

Richard Watt’s Cavalier Mk1 LOU 848P meets Jon Bentley from Channel 5’s the Gadget Show at the Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional.  Jon previously saw the car at Earls Court in 1975.

Before the start of the Ruby Run on Tuesday those drivers and cars at the start of the Ruby Run visited MacKays of Dingwall one of the oldest Vauxhall Dealers in the UK.  Mackays of Dingwall, also known as Mackays Garage, can date its origins back to the 1920s when it was a Chevrolet dealership, a part of the General Motors Group.
